Maslow's hierarchy of need suggests that if the lower levels are satisfied, the motivation to self-actualisation will be triggered automatically. This is not certain, however it will be a priority of the centre to satisfy each level to produce the best outcome. Physiological needs will be satisfied with a cafe, providing cheaper food for the homeless. Shelter and safety will be from the building itself, and will prevent rough sleepers from sleeping outdoors as it will be open to everyone. The sense of love and belonging can be provided through therapy and social interaction with others, and promoting health can raise esteem. It is important to keep active and the facilities within the building will allow everyone to do so. Through these steps, self-actualisation can occur.
This drawing was made using only AutoCAD so show the threshold/interstice of the delicate subject of homelessnese. We were told to address the issues of real life domesticity, social issues of community, human occupation and movement, gender difference, the inside, the outside, the immediate site, and the issues of public and private. It is a full 1:1 scale drawing that was printed and pinned up on the wall.
